CSP Architects Celebrates the Completion of Transformational Foss Islands Road Student Scheme in York

We are thrilled to announce the completion of our latest project, the state-of-the-art student accommodation development on Foss Islands Road in York.

Handed over ahead of schedule, the project is officially ready to welcome students for the 2026/27 academic year.

Working in close collaboration with main contractor GMI Construction and developers Urbium Capital and Gregory Property Group, CSP Architects designed this £17 million purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme to meet the growing needs of York’s thriving student population.

The development provides 133 high-quality student beds, offering a diverse mix of modern studios and one-bedroom apartments. To ensure a vibrant and supportive community environment, our design seamlessly integrates premium amenities, including dedicated study areas, social spaces, gym facilities, and beautifully landscaped courtyards for residents to enjoy.

Regeneration and sustainability were at the absolute core of our vision for this project. The scheme has successfully transformed a prominent brownfield site—formerly occupied by Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Just Tyres—into a striking architectural addition just a short distance from both the University of York and York St John University, as well as the city centre.

We are incredibly proud that the building has achieved the highest environmental standards, boasting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The design incorporates future-proof sustainability features, including air-source heat pumps, EV charging infrastructure, secure cycle storage, and measures that actively encourage a low-carbon, car-free lifestyle.
