Inntravel HQ (Phase 2) - Offices, Whitwell on the Hill

This additional phase of accommodation has been added to our earlier redevelopment of derelict farm buildings in the delightful Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for our friends at Inntravel.

Another former farm building has been converted to extend the office space for their expanding operations enabling a significant rural employer to continue to provide a high quality work environment, rather than moving to another location. The new accommodation is configured to make the most of the site’s lovely setting and fabulous views - if you have to go to work, this place takes some beating.

The existing structure was rebuilt in a low 2-storey form, using stone and other materials reclaimed from demolition of the existing building, reducing carbon emissions associated with embodied energy and transport, as part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

Rebuilding the structure allowed high levels of insulation to be added and the design incorporates brise soleil on the south side to make the most of large areas of glazing (to maximize views and daylight) whilst controlling overheating. Lighting was replaced with low energy fittings throughout the existing and new offices to accommodate the load required by the new extension and minimize overall energy demand. Provisions for protected species were designed into the building fabric including bat boxes, a barn owl box and nesting spaces for Swifts following a detailed ecology survey of the existing buildings.
